At Humber, we are blessed to have our wonderful Arboretum at our fingertips. It is a learning centre not only for various Humber Programs, but also for elementary and high schools from the GTA. I remember coming here as a parent chaperone on my own children's class field trips in JK, SK and Gr. 1, fishing critters and leaves out of the pond, unaware that I might be working at Humber one day. 
We used to have an outdoor classroom with those boulders that seated 40 students, and boy, what a podium! Unfortunately, due to the integration of the Arboretum into public parklands, visitors outside the Arboretum used it for campfires, and it was subsequently removed.
However, I chose to keep this page on my site simply to inspire anyone who reads this to take their classes outside into nature. Because it IS possible to run a power-point-less class (not a pointless class)! If you need electronics, you can put your teaching materials and resources on BB so they can download them to their devices before coming to class.  Although there is no wifi, you can still get data if you absolutely need to. 
I found this to be a great opportunity to engage students in discussion activities and strategy planning for their assignments.

Befittingly, I raided the German store on my way to school for German treats and candies that I grew up with.

​It's an important lesson! After all, food tourism is a thing (a big thing!), and food (as are treats) is an integral part of every trip!
