Awards night is always one of my favourite nights, celebrating our student accomplishments!
Above our wonderful student Avita. She was our tourism student representative in Humber's sustainability student team who took part in the "Designing Change" competition sponsored by the World Wildlife Fund during Earth Week of 2018. Her team won! She came by to share her stories and insisted I should have her polar bear that was in her gift bag as a souvenir for recommending her to the team. It's the cutest bear ever and it is sitting on the window sill beside my desk <3
And above, as always, ready for the big "rah rah" at Orientation. Always happy and proud to present our program!
Here at Open House. Allow me to explain the quote those lovely ladies put up on the Whiteboard. When I teach destinations classes and start with a new topic (aka a new destination) I always ask "who's been there?" to elicit student participation and give them a platform to share their travel stories. Inevitably, some responses are a somewhat depressed "no, I haven't". To which I respond "NOT YET". They have an awesome exciting life ahead of them, and they don't have to have covered the world by the time they are 25. The ultimate compliment from this??? A student getting a tattoo of a paper airplane with the caption "Not yet" on her forearm!!!! Now that made me cry!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
In April of 2017, the Tourism student club organized an Amazing Race through downtown Toronto to celebrate the end of the academic year (and the end of the time at Humber, for some). Us profs were invited to participate, so Irene, Liz, Kevin and I signed up as the 6ix Profs. It was a riot!
