Community Service Award

The School of HRT awarded me with the Community Service Award in 2017 in recognition of my initiative to offer swimming lessons for International Students at the Community Pool adjacent to our Humber North Campus. As described earlier, one of my students drowned in Professor Lake in Brampton as he was trying to watch the sunset.  He had rolled up his pants and just wanted to cool off his feet on a very hot summer day, not realizing that what appeared to be a shallow descend into the man-made lake would soon become a vertical drop of over 30 feet.  It then came to light that most international students do not know how to swim, something that can be easily remedied on campus.
