The Prep

We had a total of three meetings, and let me tell you - they were intense!! A lot goes on behind the scenes with regards to paper work.  Registration, bursary applications, some Schengen Visa applications (the program is open to all students, domestic and international), briefings from our International Department to prepare for the experience (culture shock upon arrival, reverse culture shock upon return, cultural differences, how to stay healthy and safe, code of conduct, etc.).

Besides forms and bursaries, we needed to prepare for the many wine tasting experiences, and who better to consult than our very own most wonderful Ramesh Srinivasan.

The hotel students would have had a class on wine tasting before, but neither the event nor the tourism students did.

In our Humber Wine Lab, Ramesh taught us the how wine derives its different shades of colour, what's involved in the growing and fermenting process, and the different kinds of wine there are, and how to properly fill in our tasting notes that were a requirement for grades after each tasting session!

Below is us, ready to go in our Humber Hoodies! You will occasionally see them throughout our journey in the following photos. Stay tuned!

The main person who pulled all the strings throughout the process and who made it a smooth sailing for the students and myself included was formidable Judy Hebner.
She would not miss a detail, forget the smallest of moments that may have occurred in a conversation half a year ago, and remember what someone mentioned in an email four months earlier.  I have truly never seen someone with such a keen eye for detail and memory!
Her support throughout the prep phase, during our time abroad and afterwards was unparalleled.  All the students successfully applied for their bursaries and their visas.

Deservedly, Judy was the recipient of the International Award at the following President's Breakfast in 2019.

She sadly passed away in February of 2020 and the Humber Community and I dearly miss her!
