Above is a picture of our very first Selling Europe Trade Show that my dear colleague, Karen Moyle, and myself were in charge of setting up in April 2015. It is the cornerstone assignment for this course, currently run under the code TRAV156, and it has become a regular semester staple in the winter and summer semesters ever since. Students sign up in groups and are asked to prepare a trade show booth for one destination in Europe. They have to be knowledgeable about the overall destination, but in particular about the key attractions, accommodations, food options, and transportation. It is up to them how they design their stands. They are marked based on their enthusiasm, their knowledge and group involvement - not how much they spend on putting their stand together, that is optional for them and their own definition of fun! They can do quizzes, games, and all sorts of activities around their stands that don't cost money. Most of them do bring little treats (some even bake), so visiting the booths can also be a delight for the taste buds! A passport incentivizes visitors to check out all the booths - they can be put in a ballot box for prizes. And we always have tremendous support from our HRT faculty to be our mystery markers! The pictures here are a compilation of several trade shows since our first one.
it was so much fun we even come back when it's held in july!
