Showcase is one of my favourite events at Humber. It happens annually and it provides every staff member, faculty or department to 'showcase' their interest and skills to the rest of the Humber community. We submit proposals for presentations we want to hold, and of course, there needs to be an organizing committee! While I made it a habit to always contribute with a presentation (I have them 'showcased' on the next pages, pun obviously intended), in 2018, I accepted the invitation to be part of the organizing committee! What a great experience that was! It connected me with new colleagues from all over campus, programs, departments, (e.g. Public Safety, Chartwells, Sustainability, Tech support, etc.) and it was a huge learning curve at the same time. Each time a department reported on what and/or how they were able to contribute and/or what their barriers were, I continued to gain more insights into what makes each wheel turn inside the huge clockwork of Humber. Once we're back on campus after Covid 19 is managed and the buzz generated through such events picks up again, I highly recommend anyone to try it out. I for myself, might even try to take a hand in chairing the event next time. Here I said it. Let's see if anyone takes me up on it. (PS I was in charge of was getting this ice sculpture, among other things, phew!)
